FAQ

What is Kentucky Fresh Tempeh (KFT)?

It’s our Organic Soy Tempeh, fermented with a special blend of herbs and spices, that once fully fermented and cooked, gives a poultry like flavour.

How do I cook KFT?

To achieve the authentic poultry like flavour of Kentucky Fresh Tempeh, the crucial step is cooking the spices. We suggest shallow-frying with quality oils like olive or avocado, or baking in the oven with these same recommended oils if you prefer a healthier option.

Is KFT healthy?

Certainly! Kentucky Fresh Tempeh is a complete protein, meaning it has all the essential amino acids your body needs. It's also high in fibre, iron, vitamins, and prebiotics, making it a fantastic addition to a healthy diet.

Does KFT taste like meat?

The Kentucky Fresh Tempeh has been fermented with a blend of specifically chosen herbs and spices that once cooked, gives a taste reminiscent of our old favourite KFC.

What are those black spots on my Tempeh?

No need to worry! Those are just harmless spores from the starter culture used in fermentation. They're completely safe to eat, but you can scrape them off if you prefer.

Can I freeze KFT?

Definitely! Freezing is a great way to extend Tempeh's shelf life. Simply wrap it tightly in cling film or store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 6 months. Make sure it's within the use by date on the packaging. Once defrosted, use it for 2 days. (Top Tip: we recomend you cut the tempeh into portion sizes before freezing).

Tempeh

I'm never sure how much it varies from their organic soy temper but both are good.

A different take on the best tempeh!

The normal tempeh is amazing, this stuff does not disappoint. Taste is different but the texture is still supreme!

This was really lovely!

This can be baked, fried or slow cooked and is delicious. It absorbs flavours beautifully! I am a late vegetarian but foods like these have a welcome place in my freezer as I know they will always provide a lovely meal. I eat it with rice, pasta, whatever really and it is always good. My husband who still eats meat also enjoys it a lot aswell.
